Partners:The Centre for Rural Leadership, The Ontario Rural Council, The Foundation for Rural Living, 4H and United Way
Objectives:Leading Edge: First Steps is a workshop series designed to educate and engage new and emerging leaders in rural Simcoe County. This program seeks to create a group of dynamic new leaders, who will have the skills and enthusiasm to lead our community organization into the future.
Status:

Steps to Leadership is a part of a 5 year action plan set out by the Centre for Rural Leadership and its partners to address the growing need for strong leadership and capacity building in rural Ontario. Nottawasaga Futures’ youth project, YNOT Youth Council, participated in the first portion of the program, Step Up to Leadership (a 3 day workshop designed to develop leadership skills and teach youth about community action) in early 2009.

Nottawasaga Futures has been designated to lead the next part of this program in Simcoe County, Leading Edge, First Steps. This phase is a leadership course designed to target up and coming leaders within Simcoe County. Through skill development, networking, and mentorship, these new leaders will benefit the existing volunteer sector by reducing burnout, increasing sustainability and engaging new residents.

The sessions are planned to begin in early 2010 with a completion date of April 30, 2010.
