Medical Recruitment and Retention

Start Date:Ongoing, initiated in 2001
Funding:Municipalities of Adjala-Tosorontio, Innisfil and New Tecumseth, private sector businesses
Partners:Township of Adjala-Tosorontio, Town of Innisfil, Town of New Tecumseth, Chambers of Commerce, Industrial and Agricultural representatives, Physicians, Medical Clinics, Service Clubs, Stevenson Memorial Hospital, and Nottawasaga Futures
Goals:To work cooperatively with the local hospital, medical centres, participating municipalities and the public in conjunction with the Community Liaison Officer at Stevenson Memorial Hospital in the development and implementation of recommendations and strategies for the community for the recruitment and retention of physicians and nurse practitioners.
Status:

To date, 25 physicians have been recruited including 11 specialists.

2009 Committee activities included Physician Appreciation Day; Rural Health Day and Rural Health Week (an initiative of the University of Toronto & Rural Ontario Medical Program); Wine & Cheese Reception; and participation at the Health Professional Recruitment Tours held in six Ontario cities and one in Quebec.

Nottawasaga Futures fully participates in this initiative and provides administrative support.
