Business Retention and Expansion Project  


Start Date:  

Ongoing program, initiated in 2001

Funding:  

Nottawasaga Futures, International Trade Canada, Municipalities, Nottawasaga CEDC, NT Temps.

Partners:  

Nottawasaga Futures, Township of Essa, Town of New Tecumseth, Town of Innisfil, Township of Adjala Tosorontio, Town of Bradford West Gwillimbury, and volunteer task forces (more than 300 volunteer representatives from municipalities, community agencies and organizations; and community leaders, etc.)

Goals:  

To survey business sectors, respond to individual businesses' immediate needs and determine strategic goals for long term planning.

Status:  

The five municipalities of Adjala-Tosorontio, Bradford West Gwillimbury, Essa, and Innisfil have completed individual projects and New Tecumseth two projects. Adittionally a South Simcoe Business Retention and Expansion was completed in 2006. A total of 473 South Simcoe businesses were surveyed by 322 community volunteers. A full report including information from community consultations and the Agriculture Strategic Plan was distributed to participants and public resource centres (e.g., libraries). Additionally this information can be found on our web site under Community Strategic Plan at www.nottawasaga.com. The communities are presently reviewing their plans to determine strategies to implement the action plans.
