Cookstown

A short drive from Toronto lies a gem of unequalled character just waiting to be discovered. Located on Highway 27 and just minutes from Highway 400, the historic village of Cookstown offers a unique blend of old-fashioned charm and bountiful shopping, including one-of-a-kind items by local artisans. Cookstown is more than antiques. The village has live theatre and art galleries. Beautiful boutiques with quilts and fabrics, eclectic interior decorating offering unique gift ideas and others with quality clothing provide an unlimited source of shopping pleasure. Relax in one of the restaurants, coffee shops, or Victorian tea rooms after strolling along the historic main street.

The Trans Canada Trail runs through the village and provides an opportunity to get back to nature and enjoy the great outdoors with a hike or a bike ride. Plan to stay a bit longer at one of the local accommodations that offer great getaways.

Wing Ding offers a community-wide garage sale and has been taking place for over 20 years on the first weekend of June. The Georgian Bay Steam Show is a must see for steam enthusiasts and happens on the Civic weekend in August. The Cookstown Agricultural Fair is a chance to experience a real country fair and is held on the first weekend in September.

A great deal of history is still visible thanks to the tender love and care shown by residents of the Victorian homes and shops. Plan to take a leisurely historic walking tour and experience the flavour of the village. Return often to where old world charm and hospitality go hand in hand.

Check out the Cookstown and District Chamber of Commerce Website for more information.
