Goals: To stop annexation and maintain the identity of Innisfil as a whole.
To control the rate of growth and maintain a "small town" atmosphere.
To preserve the natural environment and heritage.
To constrain development to protect agricultural land and the rural community environment.
Action Items: Create new subdivisions that are more naturally welcoming and preserve the natural landscape; include walking trails in subdivision plans.
Integrate schools, churches, community centres and local businesses into long-range planning; include future plans for bike paths and walkways around water.
Plan for the long-term use of new facilities (e.g. schools could be utilized for possible use by seniors in the future).
Maintain the "small town" character by attracting appropriate businesses (without box-stores).
Provide the water and sewer infrastructure required to open the Highway 400 corridor to development.
Develop the Highway 400 corridor in an environmentally, culturally and architecturally friendly manner.
Implement architectural control and conservation by-laws to maintain consistency with the surrounding area; preserve the rural character and history of buildings (e.g. the stone homes, churches); control changes to all buildings (commercial or residential, new or heritage).
Preserve the main street of Cookstown for heritage; similarly, consider heritage designation for buildings in Belle Ewart.
Revitalize urban cores; design more pedestrian-friendly streetscapes.
Create an "Adopt a Road" program.
Upgrade infrastructure (water, sewers, roads etc); upgrade sidewalks to create a safer environment.
Have Council host a public open house annually to hear ideas, suggestions and comments from the community.
Establish a citizen-led association to increase public awareness of planning matters.
Blend commercial/residential/industry zones.
